Rhythmic Gymnastic Set For Dolls

This set is ideal for adding to a GOTY 2012 Mckenna collection or simply making another doll a gymnastic set.

YOU WILL NEED:
  • 1 inch styrofoam balls usually found in Joann's store (before you buy estimate the right size for doll)
  • a very thin hemp rope that is knotted at the ends (I'm not sure where you can buy it)
  • a twig that is thin but can't break easil
  • a very thin satin ribbon or any ribbon fabric you prefer (find at Joann's)
  • Acrylic Paint
  • paintbrush
( I don't have tutorials on clubs and the hoop, if you can find a thin styrofoam hoop let me know!)

BALL
1. Take the ball(s) out of the bag
2. If you like the color you have (in this case probably white) you can leave it like that if you don't like white it's time to move on to painting,.
3. Use Acrylic paint instead of regular paint because regular paint can eat away the styrofoam
4. Spraypainting styrofoam may sound easy but the process is more difficult than you think. painting a ball takes longer but the difference is that it looks more smooth.

Spread the newspaper over a flat work area to protect its surface.

  • 2
Insert one toothpick approximately 1 inch into the Styrofoam ball and a second toothpick on the opposite side of the ball. You will use these toothpicks to hold the Styrofoam ball while you paint it.

  • 3
Squeeze a small amount of acrylic paint onto the palette.

  • 4
Dip the stenciling brush into the paint so the top 1/4 inch of the brush has paint covering it.

  • 5
Hold the Styrofoam ball by one of the toothpicks, while you prepare to apply the paint.

  • 6
Apply the paint to the Styrofoam ball with the stenciling brush. You can pounce the brush lightly against the Styrofoam surface, or you could also rub the bristles of the brush back and forth to coat the Styrofoam. Add more paint to the stenciling brush as necessary and continue working until you coat the Styrofoam ball completely.

  • 7
Allow the paint on the Styrofoam ball to dry completely. Prop the ball up on several toothpicks to enable it to dry without contacting any surfaces.

  • ENJOY!!!

    Ribbon comes in next post.
